Chroma’s History
A Legacy of Excellence
Croma's history is a journey of remarkable transformation and innovation, beginning as a family pharmacy in Vienna and evolving into a global leader in minimally invasive aesthetics. Founded in 1976 by Karin and Gerhard Prinz, Croma-Pharma® started with a vision to make innovative pharmaceutical products more accessible.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Croma ventured into ophthalmology, licensing active substances for glaucoma treatment and expanding into intraocular lenses and viscoelastic ampoules. Their growth led to certification as one of Austria's first medicinal product manufacturers, and the company relocated to a state-of-the-art production facility.
The 2000s saw Croma's expansion into orthopaedics and aesthetics. They researched and developed products in ophthalmology, expanded internationally, and made strategic acquisitions, significantly enhancing their ophthalmological product portfolio.
In 2009, Croma entered dermatological aesthetics with the brand Princess, pioneering hyaluronic acid syringes for minimally invasive beauty treatments. Their shift toward aesthetics continued with the distribution of the innovative non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent Yellox.
By 2014, Croma strategically realigned its focus solely on minimally invasive aesthetics, divesting ophthalmology and orthopaedics to Valeant Pharmaceutical. They received recognition with the IF design award in 2017 and established one of the world's most advanced hyaluronic acid manufacturing lines in 2018.
